The Samsung 7320 Wave isn't perfect, but as far as budget smartphones go, it provides you with a lot of features and goodies, including essentials like a 3.5 mm headphone jack, wi-fi, and a LED flash. Its screen may not be the highest resolution and we do wish it had more apps and widgets available, but these are largely ignorable flaws. All in all, definitely worth another look.

Its sound related qualities are also notable. Along with having a 3.5 mm headphone jack, you also get an FM radio RDS, and a Digital Natural Sound Engine. Its sound quality overall is crisp and clear, with no signs of distortion or tinniness. Its universal headphone jack means you can use whatever headset you like with the phone rather than just the ones that come in the box.

When it comes to staying connected, the Wave provides you with a wide variety of selections, including wi-fi, 3G, Bluetooth, HDSPA, EDGE, and more. Its browser is a bit basic, but aside from some occasional sluggishness, it works decently.

You also get GPS, predictive text, instant messaging, and push email. It's not perfect; we can't synchronise everything, but as far as internet connectivity goes, you have pretty much everything you need to stay online both at home and on the go. Its quadband technology also ensures you can use the phone while vacationing or taking business trips out of the country too.

With up to fourteen hours of talk time and 700 hours of standby, its battery life is surprisingly decent, considering its large screen and battery sucking features. Its shoddy 90MB of internal memory can be boosted to up to 16GB, which isn't a lot, but it's enough to store a decent amount of photos, videos, contact lists, and more.

The Samsung 7230 Wave is a promising phone with good features that could compete with today's latest. Samsung hasn't lost the mobilephone market yet and they also have lots of Three Mobile that might change your mind when buying the phone you have in mind.

Vodafone are known as being one of the most affordable network providers in the mobile phone industry, so when we heard they were releasing a budget smartphone we knew we would be treated to something that was a lot more than the price tag suggested and as far as smartphones go, the Vodafone Smart (858) is one of the most affordable yet value-for-money models around. Appearing almost like a minature smartphone, we were incredibly endeared by the tiny size of the handset, but how much have Vodafone packed into this tiny budget smartphone?

Price aside, there are a host of other things you will like about the Smart, starting with the fact that it is one of the most customisable handsets we’ve experience in a while. There are a range of replaceable battery covers available for the Smart, but the personalisation doesn’t end there as you are able to upload your own artwork and images online in order to get yourself a truly unique cover for your Smart.

As you can probably tell by it’s teeny-tiny size the Smart is a lightweight and compact handset that can fit comfortably in your pocket or in your hand. It’s good looking, with sleek lines and a clear screen as well as being incredibly contemporary.

Surprisingly for a phone of this size and price the Smart is running Android 2.2 Froyo. Although this is not the most up-to-date version of the operating system, Froyo will allow you access to the amazing games and apps on the Android Marketplace as well as providing you with the ability to turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot or USB dongle – not bad for £70!

Nokia N9 Mobile Phone Review

Nokia have been up there on our top list of mobile phone manufacturers since their conception in the nineties, largely due to the fabulous features they have provided us with, such as letting us create our own fun polyphonic ringtones, as well as bringing us protective photo cases and great games such as ‘Snake’, but admittedly it appears that Nokia have not been able to bring us the same level of amazement in the past couple of years.

Of course this is understandable, as it is HTC, Apple and RIM seemingly bringing us the magic phone’s that pioneer innovative features, but it appears that Nokia feels they are no less capable of bringing us fantastic smartphone’s and hope that their latest release – the Nokia N9 – will prove that. But does the N9 provide you with all you need and more?

Aesthetically speaking we’re big fans of the sharp, slimline build of the handset, largely due to the fact it is not dissimilar to some rather well-known MP3 players. Nokia are set to release the N9 in a ride range of different colours, a feature that we feel has been overlooked in the latest smartphone releases.

In the hand it feels sturdy and comfortable and though it is on the slightly larger side, it’s a mere 12mm in thickness and thus is incredibly pocket-friendly. To conclude we found the Nokia N9 to be an amazing phone that far surpassed our expectations.

We like the new MeeGo OS, however we feel that it still needs some development before we fully subscribe to it’s offerings, and the camera is absolutely fantastic. It appears that the N9 is capable of handling itself against some of the smaller releases of HTC and RIM, but it’s not quite at the same level as the iPhone 4 nor the higher-end HTC handsets.

Sony Ericsson Aino Mobile Phone Review

Sony Ericsson are up there with our favourite mobile phone manufacturer’s and their latest amazing handset releases do nothing to change our opinion. The latest in their collection – the Sony Ericsson Aino – seems to be yet another great handset from the brand, being both cool and stylish whilst being able to offer some amazing extra features. But is it truly all it appears or is the Aino hiding a potential problem that will effect it’s release?

On first look the Aino certainly is an attractive handset, with a subtle matt finish and sliding keyboard functionality. The keyboard that slides out is incredibly comfortable when you’re using it, with the keys clicking satisfyingly beneath the fingers. The slide is incredibly fluid when you bring the keyboard out and the grip is absolutely fine, plus it’s really easy to use.

The top layer of the phone is dominated by an amazingly crisp and clear 3” screen that displays media shortcuts including photo display, music/video playback, a camera shortcut and FM radio button when the phone is closed. When we use the screen to view media the images look to be of a really high quality and when we placed the phone on it’s side to watch a movie, we found that the sound quality was superb.

It seems obvious that due to this the Aino is definitely a media-centric phone and it has some additional apps and features that ensure that it is top of the range in this area. Included on the handset is a pre-installed BBC iPlayer app that allows you to watch BBC shows whilst browsing the net as well as an app that links to YouTube. The Aino also acts as a remote to control a PlayStation 3, a handy little feature if you happen to own the console.

Samsung Monte Mobile Phone Review

We were pleased to discover the Monte supports a 3.5mm headphone jack so we could use our own headphones rather than the ones Samsung provided. The Monte also comes complete with Google Maps and GPS, something you wouldn’t expect from a phone with this price tag.

If we’re being completely honest we expected a little more than a 3.2 megapixel camera from Samsung, especially due to Sony Ericsson releasing 8 megapixel cameras for the same sort of price, however the Samsung Monte does provide you with some decent images that are passable for uploading to the internet, which can be done directly from the handset.

We did find that occasionally the Monte was a bit slow and sluggish and quite unresponsive, however we decided that this might not be the case with every handset. We were also quite annoyed that the keyboard had a 12-key layout as opposed to being a full QWERTY, as it made composing text messages infuriating.

Though we found that the Samsung Monte had some amazing online content we decided that it didn’t offer the best browsing experience. Though we can’t complain about the browser directly – it was comfortable and better than most in it’s price range – we did find that when we were using it a stupid pop up message would appear to tell us the Monte has run our of memory.

We also found that the Web content was quite complicated to set up and feel that Samsung should have improved on these issues before the Monte was released. To conclude we found the Samsung Monte to be a great phone that delivered on it’s promises of being a high-end phone that wouldn’t break the bank. It doesn’t offer the best experience in the way of playing media or taking photographs, it’s online content is better than what is offered by handsets of a similar price.

The Samsung Monte is a good phone to have considering its features and usability. Consider to get free PS3 with contract phone as these deals give good discounts and affordable monthly pay.

Nokia E72 Mobile Phone Review

Since mobile phones first stormed the technological market we have had a great fondness for the Nokia brand and all of the amazing handsets it produces. From the humble but amazing 3210 featuring the ‘Snake’ game to the app-tastic X6, Nokia never fails to impress us, but can the latest business phone – the Nokia E72 – prove to be as successful as Nokia’s prior releases?

We like a lot of the things that the E72 has to offer, including the Symbian operating system, an OS that places the phone in a much higher league of business handsets. To be completely honest aesthetically-speaking the E72 isn’t that dissimilar to the current BlackBerry handsets, with a hard QWERTY keyboard housed in a stylish, rounded body.

The finish is a classic grey and the screen is a good size, as well as being crisp and clear. We love how the QWERTY keyboard feels beneath our fingertips, which is largely due to the well-spaced rounded keys that feel amazingly comfortable under our finger. As the E72 is primarily a business phone it is important to mention how it handles e-mail, as we want a business phone to break the chains that keep us in the office.

Setting up an e-mail account in the client was amazingly quick and simple and we were able to create a number of inboxes so we could clearly separate and identify personal and business accounts when we first access the e-mail function. For those who want a little play to go with their work, Nokia have treated you to a quick solution to switching off after business hours.

On the phone they have installed a shortcut that allows you to switch between business and personal projects, so your shortcuts for maps, e-mail and documents are replaced by your web browsing, media and games icons, a feature we am sure you will agree is awesome.

HTC Evo 3D Mobile Phone Review

In terms of other media features the Evo 3D comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack for use with your own preferred set of headphones, however we must confess we were really pleased with the quality of the headphones HTC provide you with in the box. The media player supports a range of different file formats including 3D, so you can enjoy a range of multimedia made especially enjoyable thanks to the awesome screen and sound quality.

As well as shooting in 3D, you can turn this mode off to shoot regular 2D images and the phone shoots 3D video as well. Running HTC’s Sense 3.0 as well as Android 2.3.3, provides you with a phone that prides itself on its excellent performance and incredibly smooth running.

Browsing the Web is smooth and easy and the Android Marketplace offers plenty of apps and games, including new 3D game releases, that provide you with all of the tools you need to make a super-phone. Though there is a small amount of pre-installed apps on the phone when you purchase it, you will want to remove quite a few, which can be tedious.

There are some you’ll definitely want though, including Swype, Amazon MP3 and Adobe Reader. We’ve never been fond of the poor battery life of super phones such as the Evo 3D, but the 1730mAh battery is a good improvement on the previous offerings. You will still have to charge the phone on a daily basis, but it is refreshing to know that you can get a couple more hours of juice out of it.

As well as having a hefty memory, the microSD card slot allows you to boost the memory to even greater heights, but HTC have very kindly included an 8GB Class 4 Card. In conclusion we’re over bowled with excitement about the pending release of the HTC Evo 3D. Although we’re still dubious as to how far the 3D trend will go in popular culture, it seems to be the in-thing and the use of this modern technology on the handset is amazing.

It’s a bit on the pricier side, as you would expect with a brand spanking new super smartphone, but due to the great features it seems to be worth the money. Unfortunately for HTC, Apple are planning a new release at the back end of 2011 that is being kept well under wraps, so we can’t determine who will win the Apple/HTC war, but the Evo 3D appears to be a fantastic contender.
